"The Familiars" Blog for Week December 15

12-18-14
The Familiars
Pages Read: 100-160

Prompt:   Describe the most important event. Give at least three reasons why you think it
is the most important event. Warning: Spoiler

Prompt 2: What surprises you in this story? Explain why.

Prompt 3: What ideas do you have about what is going to happen? What clues have you
read to give you those ideas?

I believe that the most important event that happened in my book was that the Queen of the kingdom that they were in, captured them, and tried to kill them. The three familiars, (Aldwyn the cat, Skylar the blue jay, and Gilbert the frog) are left on there own and they have to rescue their owners. This is also important because Skylar wants Aldwyn to help him by using his "telekinesis", but he does not have any. Another reason why this is important is because it is their first mission and they have to learn how to survive on their own. Although Aldwyn already knows how to survive on his own, because he is not a familiar, rather a street cat. They have 3 days to rescue them, because of a guarding spell that Kalstaff put on the three owners.

I got very surprised when I found out that Queen Loranella was evil, and she wanted to kill the three kids (Jack, Marianna, and Dalton). Loranella was told to be nice, sweet, and caring, but I guess it was all a lie. The author states "Loranella," he said with a note of relief in his voice." So she would have had to be a great queen or Kalstaff would not be in relief, rather in fear. She was just being selfish and she wants the thrown all to herself. When she saw the future, that the three kids would out rule her and become very powerful masters, she planned a surprise to kill and capture the kids. The author stated "Aldwyn didn't want to believe his ears, and from the look on Kalstaff's face, neither did the old wizard." Therefore this was a total surprise and they were not expecting this from their "great" queen.

I believe that Aldwyn is actually a familiar and he has powers, but he doesn't know it yet. I got clued into this when the author said "...in this shop filled with countless amazing animals, one more magical than the next-really picked him as his familiar?" I think the author was trying to clue me on that is was more than just a coincidence, but more like fate. The author also stated "So you are Kalstaff's three pupils," said the queen. "World in Vastia's wizarding circles is that great things lie in your futures." I thought the author was trying to say that they are super powerful and that they will experience great and powerful experiences in the future. Therefore all this evidence lead me to believe that Aldwyn does have powers after all but he has not discovered them.

Weekly Blog "The Familiars" for 12-8

12-8-14
The Familiars
Pages Read: 60-100

Prompt : List three new vocabulary words from your reading. What can you tell about
them from their structure? What can you tell about them from their context?

A new vocabulary word that is new to me would be halberd. The author uses this word when he states "Kalstaff stopped in front of the ancient weapons secured to the wall and unfastened the bronze clamps holding the spiked club, trident, and halberd in place." I think this word is an object that was used mainly in the ancient times. I could tell because it talks about ancient weapons and it was listing objects that were in place. This is my educated guess, but the dictionary definition is "a combined spear and battle-ax." Therefore, I think I made a pretty accurate guess.

Another new vocabulary word to me is eerie. The author uses this word when he states "A full moon was now hanging high in the sky, casting an eerie bluish light across the land." I think this word is describing the bluish light. I think it means bright, or shiny. I could tell because it is describing a light while the full moon is on which makes me think it is probably bright or shiny. This is my educated guess, but the dictionary definition is "strange and frightening". I guess I was a bit off, but I least I tried guessing with the context clues given.

My last vocabulary word that I had a little bit of trouble on was hasty. The author uses this word while stating "In the living room, the wizards made some hasty emergency preparations." I think this word is describing how fast they made their emergency preparations. I could tell because when their is an emergency, people want to get things done fast. This is my educated guess, but the dictionary definition is "done or acting with excessive speed or urgency; hurried". I think I made  pretty good educated guess.

Blog for Week 12-1-14

12-1-14
The Familiars
Pages Read: 0-60

Prompt 1: Describe your least favorite character and explain why. Describe your most
favorite character and explain why.
Prompt 2: Do you like what you’re reading? Why or why not?

My least favorite character is Grimslade. Grimslade is a bounty hunter which means he hunts all kinds of animals, just to kill them. I do not like him because I love animals. In the book he stated "You're an impressive foe," Grimslade called out, "but the chase ends here."As you could see Grimslade was determine to kill Aldwyn (a cat/main character). Aldwyn was just trying to escape. He is a poor street cat who was starving and trying to eat a fish he had gotten. Aldwyn was trying to cause any harm at all. Grimslade even has skulls of the animals he has killed, hanging in his house. I was terrified because i love animals.

My favorite character is Aldwyn. I love how he never gives up even though he is in a life or death situation. Another thing I like about him is that he is a cat. I may be a dog person, but it doesn't mean that I don't like cats. The author stated "With the shadow hound closing the gap, Aldwyn got a better look at the beast chasing after him." Aldwyn was running away from Grimslade who had conjured a hound to help him catch Aldwyn. All he wanted was to get to eat the fish he had. He didn't stop at anything to get what he wanted. He kept going and at the end he won. He accomplished what he risked everything for. You may think wasn't worth all of that trouble but to him it was worth everything. That is another thing I like about him, even if it may be a little thing he wants he won't stop.

My book The Familiars is a very interesting book and I do enjoy it very much. I would say that my favorite genre is fantasy and action. This book has both of those genres. This book is about talking animals who have wizards as their owners. You may think this sounds like a very childish book, but I think it is not. The animals owned by the wizards are called familiars and those animals have magic as well. Another reason why I like this book is because it includes animals. Like I said in the first paragraph I love animals. I like how this book includes a bunch of dialogue. I like dialogue because I fell like I'm watching a movie and it is easier for me to picture it in my head.

Blog For Week 11-10-14

11-10-14
A Thunderous Whisper
Pages Read: 102-244

Prompt:1)  Analyze The Impact Word Choice has on the meaning or tone of the Text
             2) Analyze How Dialogue or specific incidents reveal information about characters. Make Sure To Include Textual Evidence.

Word choice can definitely impact the meaning or tone of the text. For example in the book the author stated "There has to be something we can do, C'mon, think!" I commanded as Mathias and I walked along the narrow street, each holding one side of the large basket of sardines." By the word choice the author used, I could tell that the character in the story is desperate and wants to get something done quickly. I could tell that something is happening and the characters feel like they need to do something. Therefore depending on what word choice they choose, it could express what the characters feel. Especially when they use good word choice it expresses it more clearly and more understandable.

Dialogue and specific incidents reveal information about characters. I know this because dialogue tells what the character feels or does, and with that you can tell their personality. Also with specific incidents it could reveal some different traits about the character that don't come out unless something happens. For example in the first part of the book Ani was a very shy and not a very strong person. Then when her Mother died, Ani became a young and strong person. The author stated " How about if I tell a story?" Ani instead of being a weak and shy person like she used to be, she was taking care of all the other children that had lost their parents. She realized that being sad and weak would not help her or anyone else. As could when she lost her mom Ani became a more strong and helpful person.

Not only did the incident reveal something about Ani, but it also revealed something about Mathias. At first Mathias was an outgoing guy, who never gave up. After the incident he still had the never giving up but he became more mature. He lost both of his parents, at first he was sad and thought that he should go and kill Adolf himself, but with a little help from his uncle he turned into a full grown man who makes decisions when he knows the what could happen and into a mature young man. The author stated " Mathias nodded, but said, "Life isn't always fair." I wasn't sure if I liked this more mature version of my friend." As you could see Mathias has accepted what has been going on and if he did not get more mature, if he stayed the same he would have dealt with the situation a lot differently. When you pass through an incident or something happens in your life, you could easily change. This could affect the way you act, think, and do stuff.

Weekly Blog for Week 11-17-14 "A Thunderous Whisper"

November 17, 2014
A Thunderous Whisper
Pages Read: 244- 293

Prompt:  In few paragraphs, summarize what you read today.

Warning: There are 2 spoiler alerts in here! One is in the second paragraph and the other in the third!!!!

One big event that happened in these pages that I read was that Adolf Hitler attacked the poor little town of Guernica. Guernica is Ani's home town, and where Mathias was living for now. Ani and Mathias ran to a hole to cover for safety when they saw the planes were about to attack. I think that it would be super scary especially for them because they were by themselves. Mathias was worried about his parents and so was Ani. They stayed in the hole until it was all over.

As soon as it was all over Ani ran to find her mom, and Mathias ran the opposite direction to find his parents. As Ani was walking she saw dead bodies everywhere. Along with dead bodies there was smoke, and buildings on fire. For this was the most horrible day in Guernica. She knew that her mom was in the market when the attacking had began. So she went to where she knew the market was. At the market location there was dead bodies scattered everywhere. For she feared that her mother had died. As she fell down to her knees crying and scared, wondering where her mother was, Padre Inaki found her and told her exactly what happened to the market. For it was the first targeted spot.
SPOILER ALERT!!!!
She had found out that her mother had died in the attack. At first she did not want to believe it, but then she started realizing the truth and she faced it.

Then as she ran to find Mathias, she was crying so hard. Then she saw his makila and at that instant she knew it must be him. She went toward him and found him just like she was on his knees.
SPOILER ALERT!!!!
He found his parents dead and burned on the ground. For all Mathias wanted to do was kill Adolf Hitler. He was furious but at the same time devastated. Mathias finally got relaxed and they decided to go with Garza. When they got there they found a lot more kids who had also lost their parents. Mr. Garza and Mrs. Garza had been taking in children who lost their parents, or they were lost, or their parents were injured.

They stayed there for and practically lived there now. Ani was worried for her papa because he was fighting in the front line in the war. Mathias wanted to go to Germany to be a solider and fight the Natzis. Then a couple days later they announced that the surviving front line solders were coming to Guernica to see their loved ones for only a couple of hours. When Ani heard she ran straight to Guernica to look for her papa. It took her a while, but she finally found him. Her father hugged her and then told her the news. He told her that she had to move to England so he could be safe. She wanted Mathias to come, but Mathias was going to Germany so Mathias turned down the offer. She was sad to leave her home town.

Edgar Allan Poe Reflection Blog

Before researching about Poe and his life, I did not know much about him. Before I came to middle school, I didn't know who he was. Then in 6th grade we started to read one of his poems, and we were getting to understand his writing. We read "The Raven", and from that short story we had to memorize the first paragraph I believe. We did not research anything about his life and what he was going through. So really before, I came to 7th grade all I really knew about Poe is one of his poems. I am very glad that I got the chance to learn about Poe's life, and to get to know him a lot better now.

These are just some general facts that I learned about Poe while I was doing my research. My first fact is that he was born on January 19, 1809 in Boston. A sad thing that I found out was that both his parents died when he was just 3 years old. His family was split after that, and he got adopted by John Allan, and Francis Valentine Allan. With his new family he moved to Richmond, Virginia. He published his first book at age 18 and the book was called "Tamerlane". When his foster parents died, he was broke and left with no will.  At age 27, he married a not yet 13 year old girl named Virginia Clemm. In january 1845, he published "The Raven" and that short story earned him his house name. Edgar Allan Poe died in 1849.

I think that what I found most intriguing in my research was how no one really knows how Edgar Allan Poe died. They have so many possibilities, but they don't know exactly which one was the cause of his death. For example here are just 5 of why they thought Poe had died, one reason is because of the heart. The rest are murder, Alcohol dehydrogenase, diabetes, and the last because of carbon monoxide poisoning. I one I think could be the more realistic is from the heart, like a heart attack. I believe this because he wasn't young when he died, he was already a bit old. The heart stops functioning right after it is super old, and I thought this could have very possibly happened to him. A lot of old people die from a heart attack or just because the heart stops functioning right.

I believe that the reason for why Poe's writing is really scary and dark could have been because he lost his parents and his siblings. I believe that loosing your parents at a very young age could have left a scar on him.
He could have been thinking about that when he might have been writing which could have led to bad memories and he might be only thinking about the bad things that happened and he was not focusing on the good things that happened to him. He had been probably mad at the fact that his parents were not living anymore and that he would probably never see his siblings agin because they were separated.  That could have left him to think only about scary stuff because he did not have the best life he wanted. Therefore he got these really dark ideas and maybe some he based it on his actual real life.

Week November 3 Blog "A Thunderous Whisper"

November 5, 2014
"A Thunderous Whisper" by Christina Diaz Gonzalez
Pages Read 40-102

Prompt:  Draw 4 objects that represent your reading. Write a sentence for each, telling
what each item says about what you’ve been reading.

My 4 objects I picked to represent my reading is guns, an oak tree, sardines, and letters. I chose guns because this book takes place in the civil war. Guns represent the civil war because many guns, bombs, and machine guns were used in the civil war. The two main characters which is Mathias, and Ani, they find out that Mathias' dad is working in the civil war to stop Hitler and the Nazi Germans. When they found out  his father was not so happy with them knowing. Then his companions helping him decided that they Ani, and Mathias should help. At first Ani, was not so sure about this, but Mathias on the contrary was excited about this. As it turns out Ani is officially convinced and is happy. She is as excited as Mathias is.

I picked an oak tree to represent my reading because Ani, one of the main characters loves visiting her oak tree in her town. She has been going there since she was a little girl. She goes there every day on her free time to rest and think peacefully. This is also when she first met Mathias. Before she met Mathias she was very shy, and did not have much friends. Lately she has not been going to the oak tree so often because she is too busy delivering the letter and sardines, as she promised Mathias and Mathias' dad.  This introduces my 3rd object to represent my reading as the letters. In order to help out Mathias' dad decided that with their help and them delivering letter to Mathias' dad's companions would help them plan out what to do next without anyone finding out. Mathias and Ani had to deliver the letters every Monday and Friday.

My 4th object I picked was sardines because this is what Ani's mother sells, to be able to keep them living. Also now that Ani and Mathias deliver the letters, they are paying her to sell sardines to the "costumers". Mathias' father agreed that if she delivered the letters, they had to come up with something, so they decided that pretending to sell them sardines was the best way to hide the truth that they are delivering letters.  Ani told her mother that she had costumers that are going to be buying her sardines, this way her mother would let her. As Mathias' father agreed to this, he also agreed that they would also be paying Ani a little extra money, to help her and her mother buy food for Ani and her.

Weekly Bog "A Thunderous Whisper"

A Thunderous Whisper
October 29, 2014
Pages read: 0-40

Prompt:  Pretend you are famous reporter on TV. Write a story about what you’ve read
for the evening news.

Good morning Chicago, and welcome to the daily evening news. As you have probably seen the Sardinera lady is selling very good sardines. If you are interested she will be selling them every day, so if you miss it today, there is always tomorrow. Well enough about the sardines, I am here to tell you about the Sardinera's daughter Anetxu, and about how she is living throughout the Civil War time. She is often very shy at school and is not all that social. Well her daughter always comes with her to help her sell the sardines, except on Mondays. Well this one day after she came back from school, she went straight to her favorite spot under a tree at the park. You might be thinking that she sounds like she is just some ordinary child that just does ordinary teenage things, but she is not she is like a whisper, that is quiet and does not like to be heard or not really all that social. At the park came a young man up to her, about her age. He barely came to this town because his family moves a lot . He introduces himself, and at first Anetxu did not want to talk to him and she kind of wanted for him to leave her alone. Then she starts getting to know him a little bit better. Then as it turns out his father works for a pretty fancy theater, and she has never gone to one. Then the young boy named Mathias asked her if he would like to go with him to the theater at no cost. She said that she would love to.

Then Mathias left back to his house, as so did Anetxu. Anetxu right when she got home, she went straight to her mom to tell her if she could go to the movie theater, but her mom seemed like she was not in such a good mood. Anetxu seemed like she was too scared to tell her so instead she told her mom that she was not feeling good and she felt that she needed to go to the doctor. Her mom believed her and told her that she did not afford the doctor so she told her to stay home tomorrow instead of going to school. The next day she woke up and her mother had left to go sell sardines. She got ready and put on a brown dress for the movie theater. She wrote a note saying that she went out to get some fresh air. Then she left to the movie at 4:00 p.m.

She got to the theater and saw Mathias sitting on the steps of the theater, but she started getting a waver feeling She started telling her self that it was not a good idea of coming and that she could go back. Just as she turned back and was about to walk back home, Mathias saw her and yelled out her name to tell her to come back. She did and they both went inside the theater. The deal that Mathias made with her father was that he was able to bring her to the theater but they had to clean up a little before the movie began. After they were done cleaning they saw Mathias' father go into the projector room for the movie. After a little bit of sitting they decided that his father probably needed some help in the projector room, and that it was easier to see the movie there. As they were about to enter they heard a bunch of voices speaking about the civil war that was going on, and about a german warship that was of the coast of Bilbao.Another thing they heard them say was that all the information they had was right but they still have to relay the message a little bit. Mathias was excited to hear what they were talking about because he has always expected that was father was secretly an agent for the civil war. Anetxu was a bit nervous because Mathias was german so she did not know exactly what side they were on. Then his father head Mathias and how they were eavesdropping. A bunch of people that Anetxu had seen before were apart of the group, like Priest Inaki. They knew the girl too, so they thought that it would be good for them to help in the plan. Anetxu being the whisper and shy girl is did not know if she should go along with this plan.

Well that is all I got for you. After this long news, I hope you are now caught with what is going on in today's world. Thank you and Have nice Evening. Good Bye Chicago!

"The Fault In Our Stars" Blog

The Fault In our Stars by John Green
10-23-14
Pages Read: 174- 230

Prompt: Are The Characters Realistic (Do they seem like they could be real people) Why or Why not?

I believe that the character do seem very realistic and real. One reason why I believe this is because they have feelings. For example in the story I read " I still wasn't angry, exactly, but I was very focused on getting the thing I'd been promised." Mostly every human being like me when I want something I don't just forget about it. Everyone at one point in their life gets angry because they don't get something they want. In this situation Hazel the main character has went all the way to Amsterdam just to get something she really wanted. She wanted to know the ending to her favorite book "An Imperial Affliction". The author had promised her to tell her the ending but only to her. Then the author of her favorite book gets drunk and does not tell her the ending, so she gets angry. To me that sounds realistic.

Another factor that could make them real is the fact that the three main characters have cancer. Hazel, Augustus, and Isaac all have cancer, which to me sounds pretty realistic. In the story I read " Not to one-up you or anything, but my body is made out of cancer." Augustus Waters said that line to Isaac to inform him that was diagnosed to cancer again without trying to make it sound super sad. A lot of people still today have cancer. For example my grandpa died from stomach cancer when I was just 7. Augustus was diagnosed with cancer earlier in the book the author said that Augustus was for now had no proof of cancer in his body. Later in the book he took a pet-scan and was diagnosed with cancer again. To me this sounds very realistic because it is something that my grandpa had gone through.

One last thing that I believe makes them realistic is the bond of their friendship between the Hazel, Augustus, and Isaac. Their friendship and the way they help each other out and give advice to each other is pretty realistic because in real life that is how friends are supposed to help each other out, like how my friends are always supporting me and giving me advice. For example in the book I read that Isaac was going through a rough breakup after the surgeons got his eyes out because he had cancer in his eyes. Augustus thought it was a good idea to buy eggs and throw them at her house and car. He wanted to do this so Isaac could feel better about himself. Hazel even though she though vandalism was bad went along with it to support Isaac and to support Augustus' idea. I think that this was so sweet of Augustus and Hazel to do this for Isaac, and Isaac appreciated the idea a lot.

The Lady Or The Tiger Ending

" Every heart stopped beating, every breath was held, every eye fixed immovably upon that man. Without the slightest hesitation, he went to the door on the right, and opened it. " He had a slight doubt whether to trust the king's daughter and he was not so sure which door to pick. He turned around, looked at her eyes and that is when he knew he had to trust her. With that he turned around to look at the door on the right.

Everyone was quiet as if he was there alone. He reached out his hands, just as he was about to turn the nob the audience gasped with fear! As he was turning the nob he contemplated whether he would see the lady, and if he did would he kill her or let her live! As he opened the door, he screamed in fright as he fought for his life, trying to get away from the fierce, hungry, and deadly tiger. The audience was too busy yelling and shouting- it was too hard to hear exactly what each one of them were saying. In just a few minutes he was teared apart, blood everywhere, flesh, and guts everywhere.

Just as the semi-barbaric princess saw him, she just shed one tear, and pretended like nothing had happened. She left the amphitheater and saw her dad, the king, and they left to their the castle and had a nice quiet evening. For they all lived happily ever after, alone but rich.

1st Quarter Reflection Blog

I can't believe that it is already the last day of the quarter. I guess it is true that "Time Flies" when you are having fun! I have accomplished so much in these few months that have gone by. Some things that I have accomplished is learning about characterization, blogging, and I have also improved on the 40 book challenge. These are just a few things that I have improved on and learned, if I told you all of them it would be longer than 5 pages!

Before I came into Mrs. Larson's class I did not realize what characterization was and that it takes a big part in writing a book. I have now learned that characterization is how a writer or author introduces or tells you about a character. The kind of ways that an author can show you characterization is by indirect and direct characterization. Indirect characterization is when the author hints you about the characteristics of a character by actions, words, or thoughts that a character shows. Direct characterization is when the author directly tells you the characteristics of the character. Now when I look into a book I will be be to tell whether the author is using indirect or direct characterization.

One thing that I really did improve on was blogging and the 40 book challenge. Before I began 7th grade I started to read a book. In the summer I got very interested in this one book that I finished in like 4 or 5 days! In 6th grade I probably did not even finish 1 book in the entire year. In 7th grade I started to read a lot more but now that I want to read a lot I don't have much of chance. In these few months I have read only 2 books for the 40 book challenge. This is not because I am too lazy too read, but because I have been so busy since the first quarter has started. Blogging has also made me a lot more interested in reading. I feel that blogging has helped m improved on not just my blogs but my writing in general.

"The Fault In Our Stars" Blog Characterization

"The Fault In Our Stars"
10-16-14
Pages Read: 88- 174

In The Fault In Our Stars we are introduced to Hazel, who is one of the main characters in the story. This is one of the quotes that describes a little about Hazel and when the author first introduces her.  "Late in the winter of my seventeenth year, my mother decided I was depressed, presumably because I rarely left the house, spent quite a lot of time in bed, read the same book over and over, ate frequently, and devoted quite a bit of my abundant free time to thinking about death." This quote tells me that Hazel is not really having a very excited or happy life. This quote is expressing that she is depressed and all she is thinking about her death and when she will die. It tells me her age that she is 17 years old. It shows me that she is not narcissistic at all and she has low self esteem.

In The Fault In Our Stars we are also introduced to Augustus which is another main character that falls in love wit Hazel. Here is another direct characterization about Augustus when Hazel first saw him. This also when the book first introduces Augustus. "I was quite sure I'd never seen him before. Long and leanly muscular, he dwarfed the molded plastic elementary school chair he was sitting in. Mahogany hair, straight and short." When I first read this I thought that Hazel was a bit interested in Augustus by the way she described him. This quote describes that Augustus is strong, not that tall, and pretty hair.

In The Fault In Our Stars the author wrote another quote about Augustus and his actions towards Hazel. This is one of the indirect characterization that describes a little about Augustus. "Gus and I glanced at each other, smiling. Once we'd crossed the street, he pulled out a seat for me and helped me scoot it back in." To me this quote is saying that Augustus is a gentlemen and is very courteous. I think that it means that he cares about Haze. Also to me it is kind of showing that he wants to show Hazel what a god kind of guy he could be around her. I feel like this quote also shows that Augustus likes Hazel because they are smiling at each other and I believe that Augustus wants to impress Hazel.

"The Fault In our Stars" Blog

"The Fault In Our Stars"

Prompt: Draw 4 objects that represent your reading. Write a sentence for each, telling what each items says about what you've been reading

Pages Read: 0-88

These are the four pictures/objects that I believe represent The Fault In our Stars. I believe that the book should be an object that represents Hazel because of how much she loved to read. In the book I read that Hazel would never stop reading the book An Imperial Affliction. She has read it so many times because she believe that it relates to her a lot. An Imperial Affliction is about a girl who has cancer and soon you find out how sad the book gets. In the book the author spends time showing how much Hazel wants to find out what happened in the book by writing letters to the author and the author would also response back to her.

I  consider that a cigarette crossed out could also represent The Fault In Our Stars because Hazel has lung cancer. Hazel was diagnosed to have lung cancer when she was young. If you smoke a lot you could get lung cancer. Also Augustus likes to put a cigarette in his mouth without lighting it up. Hazel is fine with that now, but at first she was confused. I suppose that a heart also represents The Fault In Our Stars because of how Hazel and Augustus fell in love at first sight. Hazel met Augustus in Support group for teens who have cancer. Hazel and Augustus became true soul mates. I conclude that an eye with a tear also represents The Fault In Our Stars because Isacc has eye cancer. I also believe that the eye should have a tear because Issac got eye surgery but got blind.

Top 10 Book List Challenge

 1. WONDER by R. J. Palacio

Wonder is one of the most inspiring books that I have read. This book really influenced me because August the main character had to go through so much in school and in general. He never gave up and thats one of the most important things to know in life. I thought that I had some trouble and that I was going through a lot but what I read form this story I now know that you should never think that your life is over and that you should never give up.

2. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time by Mark Haden

This is one of my favorite books because, it shows even though people go through a lot and have to experience the most scariest stuff, he still acts like nothing has happened to him. Christophe Boone had to live his life thinking that his mother had died. Soon he finds out the most craziest and scariest things ever, and it comes from someone that he loves. To me that is a lot to go through especially to see how he deals with it.

3. The Grimm Conclusion by Adam Gidwitz

The Grimm Conclusion is a really good book to read for fun. If your into tales, horror, action, and comedy then this is the book for you. I read this book in the summer and was laughing for most of the story.  Its really funny because the author puts in his own comments and of what he thinks of the tales. I especially like how your suspense gets up with the authors word choice. Its not that scary but it is very gruesome.

4. Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss

Green Eggs and Ham "I do not like green eggs and ham. I do not like them SAM-I-AM." That is one of the many clever quotes that Dr. Seuss wrote. This book encouraged me to learn how to read faster. My dad bought me the entire series of the Dr. Seuss book. With Dr. Seuss I was able to learn how to read by age 6. I loved how Dr. Seuss used a bunch of riddles and tong twisting phrases.

5.Hatchet by Gary Paulsen
``
If your into wilderness and survival books then you have to read this book. I really like this book because it shows a lot of detail. I read this book in 4th grade and to me it was really nice seeing how he lived in the wilderness by himself for a long time stranded with no where to go. He was practically in a remote island. Just to see how he dealt with it makes you think how you would survive in 1 year in a remote wilderness or island by yourself.

6. Brian's Winter by Gary Paulsen

If you have read Hatchet and liked it and if you though it was over well its not. There is still 4 more books you have to read after hatchet. I loved hatchet and Brian's Winter because of all the action and the survival tips. Ive have never gone camping but this books makes me think if that is what it would be like if I went camping. After I read these two books Im making second choices about going camping. Although this book is full with action and survival it makes camping seem a lot more scary.

7. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by  Roald Dahl

I remember how much I used to love this book and how it got me so excited when the teacher in 3rd grade was going to read this book. I guess I thought this was such a funny book. Every day in school in 3rd grade our teacher at the end of the day would read it to us. I also remember how I would borrow the book form the library so I could have a copy of it while the teacher was reading it to us. I loved this book so much because it was about a chocolate factory. When I was a little kid I used to watch the movie and eat chocolate bars for like every minute of the movie, same when I was reading the book.

8. The very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

I love The Very Hungry Caterpillar book so much because of the little caterpillar and, because the little caterpillar turned into a butterfly after it ate so many food. This book also helped me learn how to count while I was reading it. My dad would read this book to me every day at night . When he finished reading the book he would ask me to count all the way to 10. I was about 3 or 4. I think this book is great to help kids learn how to count and read.

9. Dying to meet you by Kate Klise, M. Sarah Klise

This book Dying To Meet You is my favorite book in the series "43 Old Cemetery Road" because it is about a very cute old lady ghost and, she is very funny.  I love this book because it is the first one and, it explains the setting and it talks about the characters. This book is about a lady who wants to be an author but is not having success. Then a ghost who had the same problem of when she used to live starts helping out the old lady. I like how the ghost is so facetious at most points.

10. Over my dead body by Kate Klise, M. Sarah Klise

This is my second favorite book from the series "43 Old Cemetery Road". It is also the second book in the series. I love this book because it shows how the ghost and the lady never stopped working with each other. I love how the lady used to be so lonely but now she has a friend and, that is the ghost and, the little boy.  This shows that you are never too old to give up. It also shows that when you work together you could be more successful.
